The cost of becoming a true and faithful disciple of Jesus is indeed high. The cost could be avoided if we are non-believers or non-Christians. But since we have accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and, have decided to follow Him, we are called upon to love Him more than our possessions, our families or ourselves; to carry our own cross and give up everything we have to follow Him. The Bible tells us that God is our Abba Father, and His love is tender, warm and intimate. He recognizes all of us, His children, regardless of our conditions, and with great joy, welcomes us back into His Home. Yes. Jesus wanted his followers to adopt the same shrewdness, not to frantically hold on to earthly wealth and possessions which soon will disappear but instead give them away, especially to those in need, so that they could inherit their eternal home as a gift from God by the way they live their life on earth. Even though we do not want to talk much about judgment after death or eternal condemnation to hell, the parable serves as a reminder that after we die, we are judged, and the reward we receive, to be either in heaven or in hell, will depend on how we live on earth. Read more »
