Many people interpret “cross” as a kind of burden which they must carry in their lives. Pointing out a strained relationship or a physical illness, or a disable person in the family, they might say, “That’s my cross I have to carry.” But, this is not what Jesus meant when He said, “Take up your cross and follow me.” When Jesus carried his cross to Calvary to be crucified, no one was thinking of the cross as symbolic of a burden to carry. Our Lord Jesus promises comfort and consolation to all the weak and the sinful. When we are in difficulties and pain, we can look to Jesus. He may not always take away the pain but we can expect him to restore hope, joy, peace and life to us. Read more »

The parable of the wheat and the weeds teaches us that in God’s kingdom, which Jesus has started on earth, there are and will always be a mixture of good and bad people. The exchange is our bad for God’s good. God longs to take our weakness and exchange it for His strength. He wants us to return to Him so that we may obtain pardon and have peace. It is, therefore, a simple matter of turning from our sinfulness that leads to death, and turning to the Lord who will forgive and lead us to the path of life. Read more »
